What do Thermography ratings/scoring mean?

What Do the Ratings Mean?

Breast thermography commonly uses a scale from TH-1 to TH-5.

Think of this as a spectrum — from very balanced, stable patterns through to patterns that need closer attention and follow-up.

 TH-1 (Very Stable)

This is the most balanced pattern.

  • Symmetrical thermal patterns
  • Low vascular activity
  • No areas of concern

This is what we consider an ideal baseline, and ongoing routine monitoring is recommended.

 TH-2 (Stable)

Still within a healthy range.

  • Slight variations may be present
  • Normal vascular patterns
  • No significant thermal concern

This is very common and typically just monitored over time.

 TH-3 (Intermediate)

This is where we begin to monitor a little more closely.

  • Some asymmetry or increased activity
  • May reflect hormonal influence or mild inflammation

A follow-up scan is often recommended to observe stability or change.

 TH-4 (Needs Closer Observation)

This rating indicates more significant thermal patterns.

  • Noticeable asymmetry
  • Increased vascular activity
  • Patterns that require careful monitoring

At this stage, we may suggest:

  • Short-term follow-up imaging
  • Additional support strategies
  • Referral for further investigation if appropriate

 TH-5 (Significant Thermal Findings)

This rating shows stronger patterns that need prompt attention.

  • Significant asymmetry
  • Marked vascular activity
  • Patterns that require further investigation

At this point, we will guide you clearly on the next steps, which may include medical referral.

Important Things to Remember

  • These ratings are not a diagnosis
  • They do not confirm or rule out disease
  • They are a tool for monitoring and early awareness

Thermal imaging is about observing how your body is functioning — particularly inflammation and circulation — so we can respond early and support your health.

Why This Matters

One of the greatest benefits of thermography is the ability to:

  • Track changes over time
  • Identify subtle shifts early
  • Take a proactive, supportive approach to breast health

Your body is always communicating — this is simply another way of listening.
